‘Avaaz’ means voice, or sound, in Hindi and Urdu, languages that are central to North Indian Classical music. Although the meaning derives from its Persian root, ‘avaaz’ also has the same meaning in Turkish, Bosnian, Nepali, Bengali, Punjabi, Marathi and Sindhi, as well as Hindi and Urdu.
